Paul Michael's Story

Life After high school: I went to college in St. Petersburg, Florida for a short time and returned to Hackensack at the end of 1970. Having gone to Connecticut School of Broadcasting in 1975, I got into radio and moved to Ellenville, NY, starting my radio career. My next gig brought me to Asheville, NC. After my stint there, I worked at stations in Johnson City, Kingsport and Elizabethton, TN; Montgomery, AL, and Garberville, CA, returning to NJ in 1985. Got a job at a company where my brother was employed, and worked there until September 2009, retiring early henceforth. Now I'm enjoying the fruits of my labor, having written and published my memoirs while playing presently in a one-man band. I got married in 1988 and divorced in 1994. My ex-wife and I had a child together. My son lives in Waretown, NJ. My only brother died in 2003 and my father moved back to Canada in 1980. He died there in May of 2006 Well, that's pretty much it. I live right outside Philadelphia, where I transferred when working as a service manager for a manufacturer of recycling equipment. I went to East Tennessee State University while employed at a radio station nearby. I majored and minored in Biology. I still drive a Mini Cooper with which I have some great fun. My hobbies are playing guitars and drums, digital recording, listening to a variety of music, shooting photography, blogging and Social Media, computers and graphic arts. Find me on the Internet under my pseudonym, Mike Slickster. Cheers, Mike School My family moved around quite often. It seemed when I was just getting comfortable with the school I was attending and the friends made, off we went again. See for yourself: * Kindergarten through half of second grade: St. Peter's in River Edge, NJ * Last half of Second thru Third Grade: Lincoln School in Dumont, NJ * Fourth Grade: St. Joseph's School, Oradell, NJ * Fifth thru Eighth: Holy Trinity School, Hackensack, NJ * Ninth thru April of my senior year: Paramus Catholic High School * The remainder of Twelfth Grade: Hackensack High School; graduated 1969 I left Paramus Catholic and transferred to Hackensack High School in my senior year because PCHS wouldn't let me park my motorcycle on the scho...Expand for more
ol grounds. Shame on them! My first experience with college was St. Petersburg Junior College in St. Petersburg, Florida. That was a mistake on my father's part for allowing me go to school in Florida. The campus is 10 minutes from the Gulf of Mexico. Sure I learned a lot: a lot about life, partying and how to get a supple tan! Needless to say, I ended back up in NJ and went to Bergen Community College in Paramus, NJ, for two semesters in 1972. Connecticut school of broadcasting in 1975 gave me enough tenacity to land a job in radio that became my career for ten great years of my life; during which time I attended East Tennessee State University from 1978 through 1984. It was a very rewarding experience. I made a lot of good friends; and academically, I finally became disciplined to maintain a 3.5 grade-point average. I majored and minored in Biology which was useful in my capacity of being a service manager for a company that manufactures cardboard balers and trash compactors. I considered myself a "garbalogist." College Probably, my most memorable faux pas in college was when I was enrolled in St. Petersburg Junior College, St. Pete, Florida. I had been out drinking with my buddies and realized I was about to miss my Monday Night English 101 class. I staggered into the classroom and tried to remain focused. At break time, I went outside and propped myself up against a big oak tree beside the English building and fell asleep. At the end of the class, a couple of classmates woke me up, told me to go home and sleep it off. I had left my books in the classroom and had to retrieve them from the instructor on the following day. She was a small woman with wiry gray hair, big eyes that bulged out from behind the thick lenses of her glasses, and gigantic lips coated in fiery red lipstick that put Mick Jagger and Steven Tyler to test. I reached her office with the fear of God in me. She looked up over the frames of her spectacles and said, "Mr. Bergeron, I have just one thing to say to you: next time you decide to drink before my class, eat something first!" She smiled and gave me back my books. I'll never forget that little lady. She gave me a definitive appreciation for the English Arts.
